For this edition of the associate spotlight series, we chose Dennis Beall of the Medical Device team to highlight. Dennis has worked at SpendMend for 2 years and plays a vital role here. In his off time, you can catch Dennis hanging out with his 4 grandkids at the pool or doing some yardwork. Al Brander said “Dennis is the perfect leader for our Medical Device Explant team. He has a vast knowledge on the subject and is great with our customers. He was instrumental in the development of the new portal. One of my favorite quotes came from Dennis and it exemplifies his work effort as we continue to bring on new customers.. ‘Don’t worry about the mule, just keep loading the wagon’”. Dennis is a natural leader and we are lucky to have him! Thank you for all your hard work, Dennis.
Interview with Dennis
What is your role at SpendMend?
Medical Device Audit and Compliance Manager
How did you first learn about SpendMend?
SpendMend acquired the previous company that I worked for.
What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?
Professional – Innovative – Productive
Why do you look forward to coming to work?
My job is challenging and very rewarding working with our clients.
Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Selling toothpaste for Colgate-Palmolive. I actually went to work for Colgate-Palmolive after college from 1982 to 1989. It was an unwritten rule that you took off every Friday afternoon to complete paperwork. Most of us sales folks would complete our paperwork late on Thursday and play golf on Friday afternoon. Now, Friday afternoon is my busiest time of the week!
What is one fun fact about you?
I love to hang out at our pool with our four grand kids.
What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?
Classic Rock! My favorite bands would have to be Fleetwood Mac (Stevie Nicks is the greatest female vocalist of all time in my humble opinion) – The Eagles – Neil Young – Led Zeppelin – CCR – Doobie Brothers, and the list goes on…
Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?
I love working in the yard.
Can you describe an interaction when you helped a client or a supplier that stands out in your mind?
I constantly help clients with Medicare compliance questions.
What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?
The one that sticks out is a client who was at one hospital and left to work at a different hospital. He brought us into the new location because of the previous work we performed.
What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?
Helping our clients become compliant with Medicare and OIG regulations.
What is your favorite Recovery Room Activity?
I like to read and enjoy anything history related.
What has been your experience with SpendMend community service events?
I work remotely so do not attend any local events, but my wife and I always make donations for toys during the Christmas drive.
Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?
Al Brander has been a joy to work with and provides a vast knowledge of clinical information. This information is essential to the success of our department.
What advice do you have for perspective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?
Do not be afraid to ask questions. Knowledge is key and all associates I have worked with at SpendMend are willing to help.
What has been your proudest accomplishment at SpendMend?
Helping grow the Medical Device department.
What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?
I would love to see a huge expansion of our department, which we believe will be very profitable for the company.
