For this week’s version of the associate spotlight series, we interviewed Cam Au, a pharmacist auditor, and really enjoyed getting to know him better. Cam is relatively new to the SpendMend team and came on board when Turnkey Pharmacy Solutions joined us back in August. Cam lives in the beautiful island state of Hawaii and says that even though the beaches there are beautiful, his favorite part is the food! Hawaii isn’t the only state that Cam has called home as he attended Utah University and lived in the state for 12 years. He is still a die-hard Utah Utes fan, and wanted us to remind everyone reading this that Utah Football has an all-time record of 3-1 against the Michigan Wolverines! We are very thankful for the hard work you do, Cam, and are happy to have you on the team!
Interview with Cam:
What is your role at SpendMend?
Pharmacist Auditor
How long have you been with SpendMend?
February 2020
How did you first learn about SpendMend?
I was a classmate of one of the founders of Turnkey Pharmacy Solutions (Rob Nahoopii) which merged with SpendMend this year.
What 3 words would you use to describe SpendMend?
Supportive, responsive, and inclusive
Why do you look forward to coming to work?
I look forward at a chance to do better every day.
Before working at SpendMend, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
Research assistant in an MRI department.
What is one fun fact about you?
Misconception about people that live in Hawaii is that we all swim and go to the beach all the time. The reality is I can’t swim very well at all. If not for COVID, I would have been working towards my goal of taking lessons to swim better and longer-term goal of trying kite surfing!
What type of music or podcasts do you listen to during the workday?
Go Utes! I listen to University of Utah sports podcasts at work and while washing dishes.
Do you have any hobbies or participate in any activities outside of work?
Gardening, lazy mornings at the beach before it gets crowded or too hot.
What was the best compliment you’ve ever been paid by a client or supplier?
The best compliment is when a happy client asks you to do more and pays you to do more.
What is the best part of serving the healthcare market?
Helping the clients strengthen their 340B programs which allows them to provide better healthcare.
Do you want to shout out a co-worker who has helped or inspired you at SpendMend?
Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette for creating the amazing audit guides!
What advice do you have for perspective candidates who want to join the SpendMend team?
Be a great team player.
What is something you’re looking forward to for your future at SpendMend?
Re-visiting with clients to catch up and see the changes they made to their 340B programs.
